ARCHIVED - Body of missing tourist hiker found in Alicante mountain range
The 67-year-old man was holidaying in Benidorm when he went missing whilst exploring the Puig Campana mountain
A search operation has culminated in the discovery of the body of a tourist hiker, 67, who was reported missing on Tuesday June 14.
The victim set off on a hike of the circular route of Puig Campana mountain in Alicante early Monday, but when he didn't return the following morning, his partner reported him missing and an extensive search operation was set up involving mountain rescue specialist teams.
Sadly, at 2.20pm on Wednesday, his lifeless body was recovered.
The victim and his partner, both from the Asturias, were spending a few days holidaying in Benidorm when the 67-year-old set off at 10am on Monday to explore the Font del Molí area, in Finestrat, from where different routes of the range start.
At around 5pm, his partner tried to call his mobile phone without success. The following morning, when he still hadn't come home she reported his disappearance to the National Police, who in turn informed the Guardia Civil.
A search and rescue party was coordinated by the Deputy Lieutenant of Calpe Guardia Civil, involving several Public Safety patrols, Alicante Judicial Police Unit, the Mountain Rescue and Intervention Group (GREIM) of Onteniente, Guardia Civil helicopter team, Alicante firefighters and a drone.
