ARCHIVED - Blue zone parking to be reinstated in Villajoyosa
Free parking in Villajoyosa in the Marina Baixa comarca of Alicante province will come to an end next week.
Blue zone parking will be progressively restored and extended in Villajoyosa from Tuesday, June 15.
For some time, residents, shoppers and traders have not had to pay to park in blue zone areas, but the regulated parking system is being reinstated in the centre of Villajoyosa from next week, albeit with cheaper rates.
"The blue zones will be reactivated progressively in different phases starting with downtown areas in streets where it was in operation before," said the local authority, adding that new parking meters will placed "in other areas across the municipality and the coastline".
The aim is to "facilitate the best possible rotation of vehicles in the centre of town as well as in other busy areas such as the beaches during the summer.
The parking rates have apparently been slashed by 24 cents per hour, and will now cost 56 cents per hour for non-residents and 14 cents for residents in blue zone parking spaces.
