ARCHIVED - Benidorm ramps up bid to lure British holidaymakers at London Tourism Fair
From Novermber 1 to 3, Benidorm's mayor will meet with tour operators, travel and airline operators to "reconnect" with the British market
Following a crippling 18 months in which Benidorm's tourism sector has been brought to a standstill, the resort's mayor, Toni Perez, is currently in the UK, attending the London Tourism Fair to "reconnect" with the British market and lure holidaymakers back to the Costa Blanca's leading destination.
The event at the London ExCel Exhibition Centre traditionally closes the calendar of international tourism conventions, which kick off with the Madrid fair, Fitur, in May. And from November 1 to 3, Perez, and sector representatives will meet with leading industry players to promote the resort.
"The aim is to reconnect with full intensity with the British market. Once the restrictions have ceased, with increased security measures, awareness and improved air connectivity, we are extremely optimistic about the remainder of 2021 and highly hopeful for 2022," said Perez.
During the two-and-a-half day conference, council representatives, Visit Benidorm and Valencia's hoteliers association, Hosbec, will meet with international tour operators, online agencies, holiday marketing platforms, digital marketing companies, travel and holiday planners, technology providers, airlines and radio and TV media.
There will also be a reception hosted by the Spanish Embassy in London.
"Benidorm is attending this London event with a strong reputation and the knowledge that the hospitality sector has worked well on the positioning of the resort's brand since 2020. The sector has developed excellent protocols to ensure Benidorm is a destination that offers safety and a high level of confidence amongst British holidaymakers," added the local council.
Last week, Hosbec launched a campaign to reinforce anti-Covid safety and preventative measures aimed at British holidaymakers to "avoid a rebound" that could "seriously damage the winter season".
The resort is in a situation of "extreme risk" with a 14-day cumulative incidence rate that is more than four times higher than the Valencia region's average.
