ARCHIVED - Benidorm opens new N-332 and AP-7 access to alleviate rush hour traffic
The new lane aims to reduce congestion at the busy Avenida Comunidad Europa roundabout in the Marina Baixa, Alicante province.
A new access lane has been opened in Benidorm connecting the Salt de l'Aigua school and sports complex with the N-333 and AP-7, "removing traffic" from the busy Avenida Communidad Europa roundabout - a main access to the resort - thereby alleviating rush hour tailbacks.
"Drivers leaving the school complex or the Palau d'Esports that want to travel to the Poniente area or take the N-332 or AP-7, can now join these roads directly, without having to access the roundabout," says the local council.
In addition to decongesting the roundabout, the aim is to "give more fluidity" to the traffic leaving Salt de l'Aigua, which is significantly denser during entry and exit hours of schools, attended by around 4,000 students, or when sports competitions are held.
Just over €57,000 has been invested in the 100 metre stretch of road, along with improvements to the pavements in and around the school complex.
Earlier this year, a lane was incorporated between Avenida Europa and Comunidad Valenciana, again with the aim of lightening the traffic on the roundabout, "which is effectively giving more fluidity to traffic in the area, one of the main access roads to Benidorm", according to the local authority.
