Benidorm reopens Poniente beach libraries for summer tourist season
The 'biblioplayas' will be open until October and join an all-year-round facility at Benidorm's Levante beach
There's nothing more relaxing than an afternoon at the beach with a great book, and now it will be much easier for Benidorm beachgoers to get their hands on a gripping read with the reopening of two 'biblioplayas' at Poniente beach for the main tourist season.
The covered, decked facilities are located next to Paseo de Colón and by Avenida Vicente Llorca Alós, close to the junction with Calle Aigües and will be open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm, until October 31, offering an extensive selection of books, newspapers and magazines.
They join the all-year-round facility at Levante beach, situated at the junction of Avenidas Madrid and Europa, where there's a huge collection of reading material in numerous languages including English.
Councillor for Beaches, Monica Gomez, said: "Benidorm was a pioneer in creating and commissioning biblioplayas, and there is a big demand for the resource that improves the beach experience for users and provides them with a space for reading as well as a meeting place."
The Levante beach library is open throughout the year, only closing from January 15 to February 15 when all the beach furniture is removed for a thorough cleaning and disinfection of the coastline.
"Benidorm's beaches have certificates of excellence and quality both for their environmental value and for the services they offer to users, such as the prestigious Q for Quality; and among these services are our beach libraries."
