ARCHIVED - Benidorm firefighters climb through 3rd-storey window to rescue man who was sleeping safe and sound
Relatives of the elderly gentleman were worried for his safety after they hadn’t heard from him in several days
Firefighters in Benidorm were called out in the early hours of Monday morning, October 11, to check on an elderly man whose friends and family hadn’t heard from him in several days, only to find he was safe asleep upstairs.
Worried that the man from Alicante province may have had a serious accident, neighbours and relatives alerted the authorities, who despatched a fire engine to the building on Calle Velázquez at around 3.30am. Not wanting to break down the door, firefighters used a telescopic platform to reach up to the third-floor apartment and climbed in through the balcony window.
Once inside, the firefighters and members of the Benidorm Local Police found the gentleman sleeping happily in his bedroom, although he was slightly frightened to wake up to find so many people crowding around his bed.
Checking on the condition of elderly people living alone is one of the most requested services at the Benidorm Fire Station, and luckily this particular incident had a happy outcome.
