ARCHIVED - Free 700-space park-and-ride car park under construction in Benidorm
The new facility with access roundabout will be built on Benidorm's Avenida Bernat de Sarrià

New park-and-ride facilities have been springing up in Benidorm at quite a pace over the last couple of years, and there are already more than 8,000 parking spaces at almost 40 car parks in the coastal resort.
In an ongoing bid to improve mobility and road safety and make it easier to park, particularly with the inset of the summer months when the city's population soars with the arrival of holidaymakers, the Council plans to open another park-and-ride.
A free 700-space car park will be created on Avenida Bernat de Sarrià and a roundabout will be built at the junction with Carrer Ciudad Real.

Levelling of land and removal of vegetation at the 16,561 m2 plot has already begun, and the new facility with access should be completed by the end of June, ready for peak season.
Benidorm's Councillor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, and other council members, visited the site on Thursday to check on progress.
"With the construction of the roundabout and the creation of the new car park we will achieve essential objectives for the Town Hall, such as improving road safety and mobility, as well as public image, while at the same time avoiding uncontrolled dumping," he said.
The councillor added that "the roundabout will allow residents of all the surrounding streets to enter and exit the area without traffic lights or police, and it will provide more fluidity and safety. It will take residents far less time to get to their homes, and without traffic lights or delays."
