ARCHIVED - Fishermen reel in two dead bodies off the coast of Denia, bringing the total to six in 21 days
The corpses are believed to belong to migrants attempting to reach Spain in small boats
Part of Denia port was cordoned off by the Guardia Civil on Wednesday April 12 after fishermen discovered two lifeless bodies in nets about six miles out to sea.
In the last 21 days, a total of six corpses have been recovered by Denia fishermen, all of which were reeled in in nets close to the coast. The other bodies were tragically pulled aboard fishing boats on March 23 and 24, and all of the deceased are believed to have been migrants attempting to reach Spain in small vessels known as pateras in Spain.
An investigation is underway by the Judicial Police, who are working on the assumption the boat capsized either due to a storm at sea or the substandard conditons of the patera.
The tragic find happened just 24 hours after 43 migrants, five of them children, were rescued in "relatively good health" aboard a "small boat" off the port of Alicante.
