ARCHIVED - Almost two years and waiting: Orihuela dog agility park site remains unbuilt and neglected
Municipal group Cambiemos Orihuela has publicly criticised the lack of development on the 18,000 euro project

A site earmarked for a dog agility park in Orihuela remains abandoned and neglected almost two years after the project was approved, a budget of nearly 18,000 euros was agreed and a promise work would start in July 2021.
Lobbying municipal political group Cambiemos Orihuela (Let's Change Orihuela) has publicly criticised the lack of development at the site in Avenida Doctor Gómez Pardo Ródenas, and is calling on the Town Hall to take action.
"The Department of Infrastructure, Services and Maintenance, led by Ángel Noguera, announced in July 2021 the construction of the dog park in this green area which was intended to meet the demand of residents, given that Orihuela does not have spaces where dogs can play and run loose without causing a nuisance to other citizens," explained the group.
Construction of the park was awarded to the company JRV Proyectos e infraestructuras S.L, but was terminated for non-compliance in July 2022 and no further progress has been made since.
The project included the installation of a perimeter fence, two manual opening and closing gates, information signs, benches, litter bins, a fountain adapted for pets and agility modules.
Cambiemos Orihuela councillor María Sandoval said this week: "We do not understand how work that was announced in the summer of 2021 and whose contract was terminated has been abandoned in this way. No alternative company was sought to carry out the project. In fact, it took a year to terminate the contract due to non-performance by the company, as the termination was notified to the company in July 2022".
She went on to say that "this has caused an inconvenience to people living in the neighbourhood who cannot enjoy this space because it has been fenced off and is in a very poor state of repair".
"The councillor for Infrastructures must give explanations and provide a solution as soon as possible to solve this problem and provide adequate and dignified equipment to the area," added the Cambiemos spokeswoman.
