ARCHIVED - Almeria earthquake leaves tremors in southern Murcia
An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook the south of Spain last Friday

An earthquake of magnitude 4.0, with its epicentre in Vélez-Blanco in the province of Almería (specifically at latitude 37.7959 and longitude 37.7959) was felt over the border in the Murcia towns of Lorca, Totana and Mazarrón, according to several local residents and Civil Protection sources.
The earthquake took place at 12.26pm on Friday September 16, and the epicentre was at a depth of 5km, while a smaller quake of magnitude 1.7 took place just a few hours later in Puerto Lumbreras.
Thankfully, no damage was reported in either of the earthquakes, according to 112 Emergency services.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in the Murcia-Almeria area of Spain, but rarely reach above 4.0 on the Richter scale or cause any serious damage.
