ARCHIVED - Alicante mum arrested after 17-month-old eats corn crisps laced with cannabis
The sale of 'THCheetos' is banned in Spain but the 'snack' is available online

The mother of a 17-month-old boy who tested positive for cannabis after eating drug-laced Cheetos has been arrested and charged with causing injury and temporary abandonment of a minor.
The child was admitted to Alicante General Hospital in an "abnormal level of consciousness", according to a police statement. He was tested for THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), an active ingredient in cannabis, and found to be positive. Thankfully he made a full recovery after 48 hours.
The head of the breastfeeding ward alerted the National Police and a team from the Minors Group of the Alicante Provincial Police Station were sent to the hospital to interview medical staff and the mother.
Officers were informed the toddler had consumed a snack popular with infants, but on this occasion laced with cannabis, a spin-off product known as THCheetos that is not produced by Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo. Its sale is banned in Spain, although the product is available online.
The arrested mum told police she had bought the bag of corn crisps in an Alicante grocery story "by mistake", so officers visited the shop to interview the owner.
They inspected food products on sale, and together with the store owner, reviewed the security cameras. There was no footage of the mother visiting the store and no packets of THCheetos on the shelves. Officers concluded the woman had bought the banned drug-laden snack online.
After giving a statement, she was released pending further investigation.
