Alicante City Council has launched its Christmas Commerce Bonus scheme to boost local trade and help shoppers get more for their cash this festive period.

Adults over the age of 18 and registered in Alicante municipality can buy up to 300 euros worth of vouchers online that can be redeemed on purchases of up to 600 euros. Basically, each voucher offers a 50% discount at participating establishments and can only be used in a single purchase.

The vouchers can be purchased at https://bonocomercioalicante.es until December 22. A budget of 720,000 euros has been allocated, of which 700,000 is funded by Alicante Provincial Council.

Alicante Mayor, Luis Barcala, said the last voucher campaign "was a huge success" and underlined "the importance of such initiatives during a period when inflation is weakening family economies and consumption is falling".
