Alicante-Elche Airport passenger numbers take off
The Costa Blanca international airport has grown by more than 12% this summer

Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport has registered a total of 1,713,090 passengers in July, an increase of 12.7% over the same month in 2022.
Of this total number of passengers, 1,710,809 were commercial passengers, of whom 1,484,306 traveled on international flights, 14.7% more than last year. Some 2,265,030 people were on domestic flights, up 0.8% on the previous year.
By nationality, the majority of passengers in July 2023 were from the United Kingdom, with 579,627 travellers. This was followed by Norway, with 122,587; Germany, with 103,885; the Netherlands, with 98,930; and Sweden, with 83,726.
Dutch tourists have been on the rise on the Costa Blanca and have overtaken the number of French and German tourists this year.
In terms of operations, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport handled a total of 10,584 flights, which is 8.2% more than in the same period in 2022.
For the first seven months of this year, then, Alicante has handled a total of 8,785,549 passengers, a growth of 21.6% compared to the same period of 2022.
In terms of operations, from January to July the Alicante infrastructure handled a total of 56,413 flights, 12.1% more than the same period last year.
The flyaway growth of Alicante Airport is in stark contrast to the Region of Murcia International Airport, which has seen disappointing passenger figures for this summer, far below the number of travellers who passed through its terminal when it first opened in 2019 and a fraction of those who used the old San Javier airport 15 years ago.
