ARCHIVED - Alicante TRAM: Free travel on Sundays and reduced fares for three months
The Valencia Government is slashing TRAM fares by 50% to help alleviate the impact of inflation
Households have been hit hard by rising energy and food costs and to try to alleviate the impact of inflation on families in the Valencia region, the government has announced free travel once a week on TRAM d'Alacant and fares will be slashed by 50% for the next three months.
It's estimated that around 110,000 travellers who use public transport on Sundays will benefit from the free travel, but it's hoped the measure "will attract new users of the public transport network".
The announcement was made by the Valencia president, Ximo Puig, on Wednesday April 20 when he also revealed 100 million euros will be ploughed into the new Alacant Intermodal station, connecting the Luceros station of the TRAM d'Alacant with the ADIF-Renfe station in Alicante. The project will be authorised by the Consell at the end of this year and put out to tender at the beginning of 2023.
"We want to promote intermodality in the city and facilitate the planned growth of the TRAM network in Alicante and its metropolitan area, of which the future Alacant Intermodal station will be a fundamental pillar," explained Puig.
