Renfe is launching a new promotion between this Friday and Sunday, April 22 and 24, that will offer more than 100,000 AVE and Long Distance rail tickets across Spain for just 15 euros each in honour of the 30th anniversary of the first Madrid-Sevilla AVE, which set off on its inaugural journey on April 21 1992.

The train tickets are for travel in the summer months, between July 1 and September 30, to all Spanish destinations.

Standard ‘Basic’ option add-ons with ‘Choose’ level changes and cancellations, as well as ‘Premium’ level changes with the choice of seat, bike and pet additions will be available at the time of purchase.

The Renfe offer is valid from 8am on Friday and the discount tickets can be purchased directly from the website.

Since the launch of the first AVE 30 years ago, Renfe has transported more than 464 million high-speed passengers. Three decades ago, Renfe began to circulate the AVE with a fleet of 18 trains on a 471-kilometre line that crossed five cities.

Today, the rail operator has a fleet of 229 trains that run over 3,726 kilometres of high-speed trains on 13 lines, traversing no fewer than 57 cities.

As of April 20, Spain has lifted the mandatory requirement for masks indoors, and while they are no longer required in train stations or at stops, passengers will still have to wear masks at all times when on board public transport, including Renfe trains.
