64-year-old priest arrested in El Campello, Alicante for stealing wheelchair from disabled person
The suspected thief took the wheelchair while the owner was in a charity shop, and tried to sell it on
Police in Spain are investigating a 64-year-old man, a parish priest, suspected of stealing a wheelchair from a disabled person in El Campello (Alicante) and trying to sell it on sites for secondhand sales such as Wallapop and Milanuncios.
On January 30, the Guardia Civil received a complaint from a resident of El Campello who reported that his wheelchair, valued at 1,950 euros, had been stolen. Apparently, this disabled man had left his wheelchair out in the street while he popped into the offices of a local charitable and social action NGO.
When he came back out, his chair had gone.
Now, by reviewing CCTV footage, police have managed to track down the suspected thief – a 64-year-old resident of El Campello, who has no previous convictions but rather is reported to be a local parish priest.

The priest apparently tried to sell the wheelchair for less than its legal market value.
On February 12, the suspect was summoned to the police station as part of the police investigation, while the stolen wheelchair was recovered by officers and returned to its legitimate owner, who expressed his gratitude to the officers for their work.
