ARCHIVED - 22-year-old woman arrested in Alicante for illegally occupying the property of an elderly neighbour
The woman thought her neighbour had died and decided to move into her apartment
A 22-year-old woman has been arrested by officers from the Policía Nacional in Alicante for illegally occupying her elderly neighbour’s apartment because she thought the woman had died.
The young woman told officers that she had paid a man 500 euros to open the door for her, after she left home due to an “unbearable” relationship with her mother. The squatter, who lived in the same apartment building with her mother, believed that her neighbour had died.
The elderly woman, who was recovering from a severe illness, filed a police report when she was unable to enter her property after being released from hospital.
After the police verified that the property belonged to the older woman, they interviewed several witnesses and other neighbours, following which the 22-year-old was arrested and charged with trespassing.
