ARCHIVED - 17-year-old arrested after fleeing from illegal street race in Elche
Around 200 people were gathered at an industrial site in the province of Alicante
The Policía Local in Elche have arrested a 17-year-old after he attempted to flee the scene of an illegal car ‘tuning’ convention, which had over 200 people in attendance.
Officers travelled to an industrial side on Crevillent road in Elche at around 2am on Saturday, August 7, after receiving calls about street races and a large gathering with dozens of vehicles and hundreds of people.
As they were arriving at the scene, the police spotted a moped spinning around in circles across both lanes of the road, putting everyone at the illegal event in danger.

The police signalled for the young driver to stop, but the teenager decided to flee. He then lost control of the moped, crashed into the police car and was arrested a few moments later.
In addition to the detainee and his moped, officers reported around 60 cars and 20 motorbikes, along with 200 people, who were all disregarding Covid restrictions despite the high number of cases in the Valencia region.
