ARCHIVED - Work to resume on Pabellon Blanco in Torrevieja sports complex
The building work on the controversial structure in Torrevieja has been on hold since 2015, but the project is due to restart from July
Torrevieja council, in the Vega Baja comaraca of the Alicante province, has taken the first steps towards completing the Pabellón Blanco in the Ciudad Deportiva in Torrevieja by approving the contract adjudication for the project; building work can now resume to finally finish the construction that started more than 5 years ago.
The project, which has been on hold since 2015, is due to start from this July and has an approximate cost of 42,000 euros.
Included in the building work that will take place is the installation of safety rails on the stairs, the enclosure of two of the upstairs rooms and the substitution of the floor, which will be replaced with a cushioning material in all areas except the entrance hall, the changing rooms and the toilets.
In addition, a climbing wall will be installed in the lower central wall and the whole building will be repainted. There will also be some waterproofing tests carried out on the roof to ensure the building can withstand the rain.
A new control desk for the concierge will also be set up at the main entrance, as well as security cameras which will be placed at strategic points.
Furthermore, rubber flooring will be placed in the upstairs corridors and rooms, which will be separated by curtains.
The project also includes demolishing the dividing room where the clinic would have been located, to turn it into another room.
Once all the improvements and finishing touches are completed, the Pabellón Blanco will be opened to the public (at last!). The project is expected to finalize at the end of November this year.
