ARCHIVED - Weekend cases reach record-high again: Valencia Covid update January 24
For the second consecutive week, unprecedented Covid figures have been recorded in Alicante province and the rest of the region
The Valencia region has once again topped previous weekend Covid records, registering a whopping 57,607 infections, according to the latest update from the Ministry of Health.
A further 63 seriously ill patients have been admitted to hospitals across the region, including 15 critical cases in ICU, while 14 Covid-related deaths have been reported since Friday January 21.
In light of escalating daily Covid cases and a 14-day cumulative incidence rate of 3,560.7 cases per 100,000 people, large makeshift vaccination centres will reopen next week to accelerate the booster shot rollout in the Valencia region.
From Monday January 31, third jabs will be administered at six temporary sites across the Valencia region in addition to around 50 permanent locations and health centres.
Coronavirus cases
The regional Ministry of Health has reported 57,607 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, up from 22,063 on Friday January 21 and significantly higher than last Monday, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 992,997.
By province: 8,103 have been recorded in Castellón (123,012 in total); 16,978 in Alicante (355,512); and 32,526 in Valencia (514,471). There are still two unassigned cases.
According to the health data, there are currently 202,834 active cases, which represent 20.19% of the total positives.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 1,912 people admitted to hospital with Covid (up from 1,749 on Friday), 198 of them in ICU (15 more): 256 in the province of Castellón, 23 in ICU; 615 in the province of Alicante, 61 of them in ICU; and 1,041 in the province of Valencia, 114 in ICU.
35,853 patients have overcome the virus since the last update, meaning 793,205 people have recovered from the disease since the start of the pandemic.
By provinces, the discharges are distributed as follows: 91,567 in Castellón; 283,781 in Alicante: and 417,800 in Valencia. The total of unassigned registrations has risen to 57.
Fatalities
Fourteen Covid-related deaths have been reported since Friday's update, which brings the overall death toll since the start of the health crisis in the Valencia region to 8,399: 959 in the province of Castellón, 3,221 in Alicante and 4,219 in Valencia.
The deceased, who died within the last seven days, are seven women, aged between 55 and 90, and seven men between 35 and 90-years-old.
Vaccination data
Once again, there has been no update on vaccinations. As of Friday January 14, 4,265,413 people had been double-jabbed or had received the Janssen single dose, and a total of 10,042,110 doses of vaccine had been administered since the beginning of the pandemic.
