ARCHIVED - Violent burglar who threatened residents in their Alicante homes is jailed without bail
One of the terrified victims jumped over the balcony of her Alicante flat to call for help after being woken by the intruder

A violent burglar who allegedly broke into at least three homes in Alicante late at night, threatening and even attacking his victims has been remanded in custody without bail.
According to the National Police, the suspect used the same modus operandi to gain access to the properties. Expecting his victims to be asleep, the 28-year-old Spanish man reportedly broke the locks before searching for a kitchen knife to threaten the terrified residents into handing over valuables.
The three incidents occurred on the same night earlier this month, and on one occasion the victim feared she was going to be sexually assaulted.
During the first reported break-in, a woman sleeping on the sofa was awoken by a man in her home. Using a knife to intimidate her, the detainee allegedly demanded money before hitting her in the face and forcing her into another room whilst he ransacked the place. Instead, the victim jumped over the first floor balcony and cried for help before 091 Emergencies was called.
A police patrol was quickly on the scene to assist the distressed woman, but the burglar had already fled with 3,800 euros in cash.
Later the same night, a second victim was reportedly woken by noises inside her home, and confronted by a knife-wielding intruder who told her to "give him all the money".
She told him she didn't have any and he ran off with a pair of the woman's son's trainers.
Just an hour later, another incident was reported. As in the previous two cases, the victim heard noises coming from the living room and called the police. The woman was confronted by the suspect at the same time police sirens could be heard outside and was told "not to shout or give him away" before the burglar fled the property. According to police, "she feared the man was going to sexually abuse her, but thanks to the rapid police intervention he was unable to do so".
The area was immediately awash with police armed with descriptions from all three residents, and the suspect was caught wearing the stolen trainers. After putting up "strong resistance", the 29-year-old, who has a police record, was arrested and Alicante's Court of Instruction remanded him in prison without bail pending a further court hearing.
