ARCHIVED - Alicante serial home burglar jailed without bail
The Moroccan suspect was allegedly responsible for a spate of robberies in the Marina Alta area

A 25-year-old Moroccan man is behind bars in Alicante for carrying out a spate of robberies in homes in the Marina Alta area of the province, some of which resulted in violence against occupants who surprised the burglar.
According to the Guardia Civil, the suspect is responsible for 11 break-ins and is part of a violent criminal gang made up of three members specialising in targeting homes in isolated areas such as Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos.
The organised gang travelled to the Region of Murcia to carry out its hits and the other two members are still unaccounted for. In addition to the robberies, the young man is accused of an alleged crime of attacking a police officer, another of resistance and disobedience and two injuries to an agent of authority.
The Roca de Calpe team of the Guardia Civil, which specialises in burglaries in rural areas, first began its investigation after a series of break-ins were reported in the same towns, all occurring on Friday nights between 7pm and midnight.
The spate came to an end when the criminals encountered the homeowner during an attempted robbery of a house in Gata de Gorgos. The would-be robbers pelted the man with rocks and he had to be treated for various injuries.
After resisting arrest and causing harm to two officers, the Moroccan man was eventually arrested, but his two accomplices fled the scene and are still at large. The suspect has been denied bail.
