VIDEO: Man gored to death by bull at Spanish festival
The victim suffered liver and lung damage during the traditional bull run in Valencia
A 61-year-old man named locally as José Antonio S. has died after being gored several times during the annual bull run in the Valencian town of Pobla de Farnales in eastern Spain. This is the first fatality in the region this year after nine people lost their lives and almost a thousand were injured in 2022.
The horrifying incident was recorded at around 7.30pm on Saturday September 23 and the Sevillian bull, named ‘Cook’, reportedly made a beeline for spectators as soon as it was released from the box on Calle Estación.
Dozens of people were watching the spectacle behind a gate but the victim and his friend can be seen climbing through the bars to goad the animal. The father of two was pierced by the bull’s horns as many as four times, one of the attacks damaging his lung and liver. He was rushed to the Hospital Clínico de València for emergency surgery but sadly died a short time later.
Y en la Pobla de Farnals sigue el arte en la calle. Un arte en el que la cornamenta del artista ha dejado un muerto y un herido grave, es que no aprenden... 🔊🎵🎶😛 pic.twitter.com/2tPoYmXrJa

The victim’s 63-year-old friend was gored in the legs by the same bull but he is understood to be in a stable condition in hospital.
The Pobla de Farnals Town Council and the Comissió de Bous club, to which the men belonged, decided to suspend the remainder of the celebrations on Saturday night after learning of the tragic news.
Despite resulting in countless deaths and injuries each year, bull running is still a popular sport throughout Spain. In the Valencian Community alone, such events create more than 3,000 jobs annually and bring in around 300 million euros.
Just last month, a 33-year-old Irish tourist was seriously injured in the Murcia town of Blanca when he was gored and knocked unconscious during the San Roque patron saint festivities.
