ARCHIVED - Vega Baja Hospital confirms zero Covid patients
The hospital in Orihuela, Alicante province, is Covid-free for the second time since the start of the pandemic.
Vega Baja Hospital in Orihuela has revealed today (Wednesday, June 23) that it is Covid free with no infected patients being treated on normal wards or in ICU:
This is only the second time the hospital has had no coronavirus admissions since the start of the pandemic, according to Orihuela Health Department, the last time being on May 7.
However, the situation changed over the consequent weeks, though not considerably, with an average of four patients admitted to wards and on occasions one or two in ICU in cases where the symptoms were life-threatening.
This is in stark contrast to the height of the third wave, when 202 people were admitted to the Vega Baja Hospital, putting extreme pressure on medical staff and resources.
Today, the health department announced the hospital now has zero patients hospitalised with Covid, and has been able to turn medical attention back to "pre-pandemic activities in a better situation than before".
This is down to the fact that there has been a significant investment in infrastructures, new technologies, personnel and other services over the last 15 months, contributing to an "optimisation of resources and improvements at an organisational and healthcare level".
