ARCHIVED - Vaccination of young people brought forward in Alicante
Valencia region receives additional 580,000 vaccines to speed up vaccination in August
The Valencia region's Ministry of Health plans to complete the vaccination of young people this month with an additional 580,000 doses of vaccine.
According to the Minister of Health, Ana Barceló, the extra vaccines include 240,000 additional vials of Moderna that are exected to arrive in the next few days to compensate for a shortfall in July.
The remaining 340,000 are supplementary Pfizer doses announced by Spain's president, Pedro Sanchez on Friday, July 30, "to allow communities to continue accelerating the immunisation campaign".
In the Valencia region, the plan is to administer 200,607 doses to 20 to 49-year-olds within a week, with a further 9,241 doses of Pfizer earmarked for those people who received a fist dose of AstraZeneca, to complete their immunisation.
"The bulk of this week's vaccines will be Pfizer, the rest of which will be used for those who could not be vaccinated at the time of their original appointments because they were infected, for newly hired professionals in the health and social care fields, and those considered high-risk because of health conditions" explains Barceló.
In addition, a further 64,918 doses of the Moderna vaccine will be administered, mostly to people aged between 20 and 49-years-old, along with workers whose employers are vaccinating on site, professionals joining the health system in the summer, Erasmus students, and people with high-risk conditions.
And finally, 2,143 AstraZeneca doses will be administered to people over 60 years of age who are awaiting their second dose, with 375 Janssen single doses set aside for international travellers.
