Upgrade for N-332 and AP-7 motorway linking Marina Alta cities in Alicante
The works will greatly benefit several Alicante locales including Benissa, Teulada and Javea
Motorists in the Marina Alta region of Alicante province are set to benefit from a major upgrade to the N-332 duel carriageway and the AP-7 motorway, following approval from the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The ministry has given the green light to a comprehensive study on the conditioning of the road which covers the stretch between Benissa, Gata de Gorgos and Pedreguer, and includes improvements to the road's safety features and infrastructure.
According to government officials, the upgraded N-332 will feature cutting-edge technology and state-of-the-art safety measures designed to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve travel times. The project, which carries a price tag of 30 million euros, is expected to be completed in the near future, pending finalisation of the necessary paperwork and regulatory approvals.
The N-332 dual carriageway is a vital artery connecting several towns along the Alicante coast, including Benissa, Teulada and Javea. With an average daily traffic volume of nearly 20,000 vehicles during peak periods, the road is a key transportation link for both locals and tourists. However, the current state of the highway has raised concerns about safety, prompting calls for urgent intervention from local authorities and residents.
To address these issues, the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has proposed a three-pronged approach, involving the creation of a new connection between the AP-7 motorway and the N-332, the refurbishment of a section of the CV-732 road, and the enhancement of the existing link between the N-332 and CV-734 roads.
Welcoming the development, Pilar Bernabé, the Government Delegate, described the move as "a significant step forward in mobility and road safety" for the region. She emphasised the importance of investing in modernising infrastructure, highlighting the positive impact on connectivity, commerce and job creation.
Once completed, the revamped N-332 dual carriageway is expected to greatly enhance the overall driving experience, providing smoother journeys, reduced congestion and improved air quality.
Moreover, the project aligns with regional and national goals to promote sustainable transportation and mitigate the effects of climate change.
