UK travellers propel Alicante Airport to record April figures
More than a third of all passengers at Alicante Airport in April were from the United Kingdom

Alicante Elche Miguel Hernández Airport reached new heights in April with a record 1,732,423 passengers, making it the busiest April in the airport's history.
This marks the fourth month in 2025 where the airport has broken its own traffic records, representing an increase of 8.9% compared to April last year.
International travel continues to be the driving force at Alicante. In April alone, 1,510,805 international passengers were recorded, which is a growth of 10.7%. On the other hand, domestic travel saw a small decline with 220,101 passengers, reflecting a 1.6% decrease compared to the same month last year.
Among international markets, the United Kingdom is holding firmly to its top position. A total of 586,853 travellers flew in from or out to the UK, meaning that a third of all traffic came from Britain. This was followed by the Netherlands with 109,897 passengers, Germany with 96,650, Belgium with 86,768 and Poland with 85,714.
Flight activity also hit a new record. In April, the airport handled 10,890 aircraft operations, which is an impressive 7.8% rise from the same period in 2024.
It’s shaping up to be a great year for the Costa Blanca travel hub. From January through April, Alicante Airport welcomed a total of 5,432,165 passengers. This represents a significant 12.7% increase over the same period last year. A total of 34,984 flights were operated in these four months, which is 13.5% more than in 2024.
The Aena Group, which includes 46 airports and two heliports in Spain, as well as London Luton Airport and 17 airports in Brazil, also reported strong growth in April 2025. The network served 32,342,698 passengers, which is 6.2% more than April last year.
Aircraft movements increased slightly to 274,866, up 0.9%, while cargo transport rose to 119,766 tons, showing a 6.8% increase.
While these figures are undoubtedly impressive, it’s worth remembering that the Easter holiday took place in April this year, unlike last year when it occurred in March. This seasonal shift likely played a role in the month’s strong figures.
