ARCHIVED - Two arrested in Benidorm and Chiva for drugging and robbing tourists in Marbella
The two victims claim they were invited to a flat on the Costa del Sol where their drinks were spiked with benzodiazepines
The National Police in Benidorm have arrested two women in Benidorm and Chiva for allegedly drugging and robbing two Dutch tourists in Marbella.
The authorities had been trying to track down the suspects, aged 24 and 27, since April after the two male victims reported having their drinks spike with benzodiazepines after being invited to a flat in Marbella.
According to the complainants, they met the two women in a nightclub in Puerto Banús, and at the end of the night, went back to an apartment the detainees were staying for a few days' holiday.
Once there, the women allegedly offered to prepare cocktails for the two men, who reportedly woke up the next morning "completely stunned" to find their mobile phones and other electronic devices, valued at 9,000 euros, had disappeared, along with their hosts.
Officers from the Specialised and Violent Crime Unit in Marbella began an investigation and finally traced the suspects in the Valencian municipality of Chiva and Benidorm. A court date has yet to be set.
The arrests follow the detention of a dangerous fugitive in Benidorm, wanted for assault, making threates and illegal detention in the Netherlands.
