ARCHIVED - Torrevieja trials electric bus on urban routes to reduce emissions and embrace cleaner technology
The coastal resort in the Vega Baja, Alicante province, is taking part in a national Energy Transition Project.
Torrevieja is testing an Urban 12 electric bus this week on a number of its most popular central passenger routes.
One of the objectives of the Energy Transition Project being trialled across Spain is to conduct pilot tests of buses with new cleaner technologies to assess the feasibility of introducing electric alternatives into passenger bus fleets.
They will be assessed on their ability to provide a reliable and efficient service in different environmental conditions on a variety of routes.
The electric bus has been operation in Torrevieja since Tuesday June 15 and will complete its trial on the Advance Line A: Torrevieja to La Mata tomorrow, Thursday, June 17.
The main advantages of the Urban 12 electric bus are zero emissions and low acoustic levels, while offering "great comfort for passengers and driver".
