ARCHIVED - Three out of four vaccinated in Valencian region have had mild or no side effects
More than 5,500 vaccinated people were surveyed across the provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellon.
A study being carried out by experts from the Valencian Vaccine Research Program (ProVaVac) shows that three out of four vaccinated people in the region have experienced only mild side effects or none at all.
In addition, 98.7`per cent of the elderly vaccinated against Covid in residences have developed antibodies three months after the second dose with the Pfizer vaccine - the most used in Spain amongst older people - while two-thirds of the remaining 1.3 per cent developed another type of immunity, T lymphocytes.
According to the Scientific Director of ProVaVac, David Navarro, the study is "pioneering" and shows an "extraordinarily satisfactory" response, and he added that these conclusions could probably also be extended to other vaccines, such as Moderna.
Experts surveyed more than 5,500 people vaccinated between April 19 and June 6 about the side effects of all the vaccines administered, and more than 70 per cent said they have not noticed side effects, or that they have been very mild.
And almost all the side effects apparently disappeared within a week.
The most common reaction has been discomfort in the arm, with 71 per cent claiming they had some discomfort the day after receiving the jab, though 90 per cent said this disappeared after about a week.
The next most common complaint is general fatigue, with almost half (46.7 per cent) of those vaccinated suffering from it for around seven days.
According to ProVaVac, these symptoms indicate that the body is responding to the vaccine and generating protection, and that the symptoms confirms data reported in clinical trials.
The findings of the study coincide with the release of regional health figures which show that since the beginning of the pandemic, 44,953 people in the Valencian region have been admitted to hospitals across the three provinces.
Specifically, 40,789 have been hospitalised on general wards and 4,164 have had to be treated in Intensive Care Units.
Of those hospitalised, 57.3 per cent have been men compared and 42.7 per cent women.
Surprisingly, January 2021 saw the highest number of Covid patients hospitalised, with the average age of patients being over 75 years-old during the onset of the pandemic dropping to the current age of 51 to 65.
