Three dead and eight injured in a factory explosion in Ibi
The explosion occurred in the boiler and collapsed part of the packaging warehouse
Three people have died and eight others have been injured in a serious explosion in the town of lbi, just north of Alicante. The explosion occurred in an industrial warehouse that is used to make plastics containers and packaging.
According to Elvira Vidal, head of the Local Police of Ibi, the deaths have been due to the shock wave or because they have been hit by the roof when it collapsed.
The government delegates in Valencia have confirmed that there were 39 people working in the factory when the explosion occurred.
Firefighters, Local Police, Civil Guard and health workers are working at the scene of the accident, where a medical helicopter has also appeared. The mayor of Ibi, Sergio Carrasco, has confirmed the death of three people
The explosion was caused by the bursting of the boiler at around 12.00 PM at the Industrias Climber S.A. factory, located on Avenida del Juguete. One of the deceased worked at Ibi Pal, a factory next to the one that suffered the explosion.
Part of the factory has exploded due to the explosion and that left several members of the work team trapped in the debris. Firefighters have reported that they have freed two workers trapped in the rubble, while another missing person has been located dead at the site of the explosion.
Seven firefighters from five different parks in the province are on site, as well as members of the Civil Guard and the Local Police.
