Temperatures to hit the 40s this week: Alicante weather forecast July 10-13
Weather warnings have been issued for parts of Alicante province due to extremely high temperatures
The thermometers took a dramatic upswing over the weekend in much of the Valencian Community and the heat shows no signs of abating over the next few days.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow weather warning on Monday July 10 for temperatures that could reach up to 38ºC in central Alicante province, with the regions of Alto and Medio Vinalopó, l'Alcoià, El Comtat and some areas of l'Alacantí bearing the brunt.
But northeasterly breezes will do little to alleviate the heat along the coast either, where the thermometers are expected to top out at 33ºC, with a ‘real feel’ of more than 37ºC in the sun. The morning will be mostly clear with cloud cover increasing inland from noon when dry storms could develop. It’s also expected to be a particularly muggy day with humidity swinging between 40 and 70%.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Monday
Alcoy: 22ºC to 38ºC
Alicante: 25ºC to 33ºC
Denia: 23ºC to 31ºC
Elche: 23ºC to 36ºC
Orihuela: 23ºC to 35ºC
On Tuesday July 11 the yellow weather warning for inland Alicante will be ramped up to orange (significant risk) with the mercury expected to hit 41ºC on a predominantly clear day with a chance of morning haze. Both the northern and southern coasts are on yellow alert for high temperatures.
One again the cloud cover will increase inland towards the afternoon, resulting in storms that could be accompanied by hail showers and strong gusts.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Tuesday
Alcoy: 24ºC to 41ºC
Alicante: 25ºC to 34ºC
Denia: 23ºC to 34ºC
Elche: 23ºC to 37ºC
Orihuela: 24ºC to 40ºC
The weather warning will be downgraded to yellow on Wednesday July 12 but will only apply to Alto and Medio Vinalopó, l'Alcoià, El Comtat and part of l'Alacantí. Elsewhere the thermometers will dip slightly during the day, remaining largely unchanged at night.
Another clear day is on the cards although Saharan dust clouds are a possibility in the southern half of the province, where a coastal breeze will also prevail.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Wednesday
Alcoy: 26ºC to 40ºC
Alicante: 27ºC to 34ºC
Denia: 23ºC to 32ºC
Elche: 26ºC to 37ºC
Orihuela: 25ºC to 39ºC
A marked change is forecast for Thursday July 13 when the temperatures will fall by a couple of degrees across the board, although the mercury will still remain in the 30s throughout. Cloudy intervals in the morning could extend as the hours go by while an east component wind will feel stronger along the coast.
Minimum and maximum temperatures on Thursday
Alcoy: 22ºC to 33ºC
Alicante: 25ºC to 34ºC
Denia: 24ºC to 31ºC
Elche: 24ºC to 36ºC
Orihuela: 25ºC to 37ºC
