Alicante braces itself for second heatwave: weekend weather July 6-9
Temperatures will soar this weekend across Alicante province following a muggy couple of days
The mercury is set to rise once again this weekend with the second summer heatwave forecast to hit Alicante province and much of Spain.
The next couple of days will feel particularly muggy due to high humidity, before a southward swing of Atlantic low pressure will push warm air from North Africa causing a sharp rise in temperatures over the weekend.
According to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), thermometers could top out at 37ºC in Alcoy, with the Vega Baja expected to see highs of 36ºC.
And the experts expect the heatwave to continue well into next week, although it will remain cloudy at times and the odd shower hasn't been ruled out.
For the most part, Thursday July 6 will feel quite sultry with cloudy intervals, temperatures in excess of 30ºC in much of the province and the odd hazy spell. A wind from the east will bring light relief from the muggy heat.
Alcoy: 19ºC to 31ºC
Alicante: 23ºC to 30ºC
Denia: 22ºC to 30ºC
Elche: 22ºC to 31ºC
Orihuela: 23ºC to 32ºC
Friday July 7 will also see cloudy spells in the morning that are expected to gather momentum in the afternoon. The mercury may rise by a degree or two during the day and remain unchanged at night, and there's a chance of occasional showers. North and easterly winds will feel moderate on the coast and light inland.

Light cloud on Saturday morning, July 8, will give way to clear skies although there's a possibility of haze early afternoon. Thermometers will creep up steadily as the day progresses, and the Vega Baja region of the province can expect highs of 36ºC. A light variable wind will be predominantly east and southeasterly.
