ARCHIVED - Stranded turtle is the latest of 13 animals recovered by Alicante cleaning services
The disoriented turtle was found on Cabo de la Huertes beach in Alicante
UTE Alicante, the company responsible for cleaning services, collection and treatment of waste, has issued tips on what the public should do if they come across a stranded animal after a disoriented turtle was discovered on Cabo de la Huertes beach located between playas San Juan and Albufereta.
The creature is the thirteenth animal collected, assisted or removed from beaches or public roads by UTE Alicante so far this year.
"Due to the nature and condition of the animals, the use of specific protocols and the performance of professionals in one way or another is required," explained the company, which has now offered advice on what to do if you come across an injured or stranded animal.
If you are walking along the beach, and come across a turtle in distress, for example, the first thing to do is to call the emergency telephone number so that they can ensure the correct protocol is deployed.
Avoid getting too close and do not shine flashlights or other objects that may dazzle the turtle. If it appears to be returning to the sea, do not get in the way or make it difficult for it to find its way.
Once the 112 has been alerted, they will take care of the animal and take the necessary action.
"Whenever a living being is found dead or trapped on the public road, UTE Alicante deploys its means and established protocols," said the company, adding: "Among the 13 animals located this year, we found three dogs, a wild boar, three cats, several pigeons and a goat. Last year, however, we assisted a swordfish, several dolphins and foxes, a cow and a couple of ponies. For all these cases there is always a protocol, first for collection, identification and treatment."
