ARCHIVED - Spooky open-air Halloween celebrations in Alicante to boost local trade
Shops in Alicante have organised "spooky" outdoor activities and workshops with animation, virtual reality and music
Hundreds of shopkeepers and other businesses in Alicante have organised an extensive programme of outdoor Halloween-themed activities to boost shopping over the weekend.
Traders will decorate their shop windows with spooky displays and fill the streets with "spooky" workshops and activities with animation, virtual reality and music, "aimed above all at children", according to the city council, which is working with businesses to stage the two-day event.
Families are being encourage to participate and "shop in costume with the little ones" to "enjoy a day in which leisure and commerce will be combined".
"The aim is to support the commercial and hospitality sector in the city centre and surrounding neighbourhoods, as well as boosting consumption and creating a flow of customers who can take part in the different entertainment activities, combining the fun element with shopping," explained Councillor for Trade, Lidia López.
The festivities will take place, with anti-Covid measures and police surveillence, in:
- Friday October 29, 5.30pm to 8.30pm: Plaza Navarro Rodrigo in the Benalúa neighbourhood.
- Saturday October 30, 10.30am to 1.30pm: Plaza de la Montañeta
- Saturday October 30, 5.30pm to 8.30pm: Plaza San Blas
- Saturday October 30, 3pm to 11pm: 'Horror Night' Halloween party in Calle Quintana, which will be closed to traffic from Avenida General Marvá to Calle Capitán Segarra.
