ARCHIVED - Spanish Princess will complete military training in San Javier
Princess Leonor will finish her three-year stint at the San Javier General Air Academy

Following in the footsteps of her father, King Felipe VI, and his father before him, heir to the Spanish throne Princess Leonor will complete her military education at the San Javier General Air Academy.
The king’s eldest daughter turns 18 in October and will report for duty at the Spanish army's General Military Academy in Zaragoza during the 2023-24 intake, according to Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles.
Princess Leonor "must receive military training, as her father his majesty the king did, and as is done in other parliamentary monarchies," Robles said.
The Princess of Asturias, who is completing her second Baccalaureate course in Wales, will begin her military training at the beginning of September in Zaragoza (Aragón) before moving on to her second year at the Marín Naval School in Pontevedra (Galicia).
From here, she will move to the General Air Academy in San Javier, in the Region of Murcia, to complete her military training. Like her father, Princess Leonor is then expected to attend university in Spain and undertake a Master's degree abroad.
Spain's Royal Palace said "it is a widely observed and shared tradition in European parliamentary monarchies that future heads of state develop a miliary career."
Under Spain's constitution, Princess Leonor will become the head of the armed forces when she ascends the throne.
