Spanish politician gets tattoo of employment figures on his wrist
Meet the regional Employment Secretary who tattooed his key results on his arm forever
An enthusiastic politician in Spain has inked a graph showing the fall in unemployment in his local region, as a very permanent nod to his own good work.
The regional secretary for Employment of the Generalitat in the Valencian Community, Enric Nomdedéu i Biosca, says he is so “proud” of his work to bring unemployment numbers down in this legislature that he has tattooed the graph on his skin for all time.
Mr Nomdedéu posted a photo of his new tat on Twitter, with the explanation when his party came to power in the Valencian government in 2015, unemployment stood at 23%, whereas they now stand at a respectable 13.5%.
Granted, there’s a spike in the middle there when Covid-19 and lockdown sent unemployment figures soaring.
But overall, Mr Nomdedéu is so pleased with the job he’s done that he decided to get it tattooed in a very visible location on his left wrist, just a few weeks before the country heads to the polls for municipal elections.
Quan vam arribar al govern l’atur al País Valencià estava en el 23%, vam superar una pandèmia que disparà les xifres i acabarem esta legislatura en el 13’5% i baixant.

Enric Nomdedéu has held the post of regional secretary for Employment and Director General of Labora, the Valencian Employment and Training Service, which is part of the Department of Sustainable Economy, since June 2019.
According to data from the Labour Force Survey (EPA), published last Thursday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the unemployment rate stood at 13.78% in the Valencian Community in the first quarter of the year.
He has opened a debate about four-day work weeks, when employees only have to do 32 hours per week rather than 40, saying that, while it is not the solution to all the problems in the labour market, it is part of the process of advancement of workers and of consuming fewer energy resources.
