ARCHIVED - Slight uptick in new infections although hospitalisations continue to fall: Valencia Covid update September 27
Daily coronavirus cases seesaw once again as the Valencia Region kicks off its fourth dose vaccination campaign
Having followed an upward trajectory for the last three weeks, the all important Covid data has taken a slight turn with new daily infections up marginally on those reported a week ago.
Meanwhile, hospital pressure continues to ease, although the region is in the top five autonomous communities when it comes to hospitalised patients with 237 seriously ill people on wards in Valencia's three provinces.
On Monday September 26, the region's Ministry of Health began its latest vaccination campaign, administering the fourth dose of Covid vaccine focusing initially on around 30,000 people who live or work in residential homes and care facilities.
In addition to care homes and other disability care facilities, other population groups considered to "be at risk" will also receive this new booster dose, but at a later date which has yet to be confirmed.
Between now and the end of the year, more than 1.6 million people in Alicante province and the rest of the region will be offered the second booster jab to try to combat future outbreaks.
Coronavirus cases
The Regional Ministry of Health in the Valencia Community has reported a total of 964 new cases confirmed by PCR test or antigen test since last Friday September 23. Of these, 542 were detected in people over 60 years of age (up from 506)
In terms of new cases by province, there are 229 new cases in Alicante (making 527,151 in total), 155 new cases in Castellón (191,193 in total) and 580 in Valencia (833,480 in total).
Hospitalisations
Hospital pressure continues to fall and there are currently 237 people throughout the region admitted to hospital with Covid compared to 253 last Tuesday September 20. A dozen of those people are being treated in ICU.
In terms of provinces, there are 69 hospitalisation in the province of Alicante, 1 of them in the ICU; 35 in the province of Castellón, 0 in ICU; and 133 in the province of Valencia, 11 in ICU.
Fatalities
Five deaths from coronavirus deaths have been reported in the last seven days. They are three men aged 64 and 91 years and two women aged 65-95 years.
The total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic now stands at 10,058: 3,838 in the province of Alicante, 1,195 in the province of Castellón and 5,025 in the province of Valencia.
