Six new car parks planned for Torrevieja city
It’s unlikely, however, that the facilities will be ready before tourists descend on the Costa Blanca this summer
Between June and September of 2023, massive traffic congestion took hold in Torrevieja's city centre due to a huge influx of tourists and disruptions caused by ongoing construction work at the marina, which resulted in the elimination of more than 500 parking spots.
Subsequent road closures, limited public transport and strained public parking left many drivers endlessly circling the waterfront promenade.
Torrevieja City Council is eager to avoid the same mistakes this year and although they might be coming a little late to the game with summer just around the corner, they have just announced plans to build six new car parks on the outskirts of the city centre.
They’ll all be built on municipally owned land that totals 153,000 square metres with an estimated capacity of 3,500 vehicles.
Here’s where they will be located:
Car park 1: Avenida de la Estación – Calle Urbano Arregui – Canal del Acequión de Torrevieja N-332. Approximate area: 14,573 m2.
Car park 2: Calle Ciudad de Barcelona – Colegio Público Acequión – Avenida de la Estación – N-332. Approximate area: 12,789 m2.
Car park 3: Residencial Parque de las Naciones – N-332. Approximate area: 11,350 m2.
Car park 4: Avenida Ramón del Valle Inclán – Torreta – Calle José María de Pereda – Calle Emilia Pardo Bazán. Approximate area: 7,102 m2.
Car park 5: Calle Juan Valera – CV-905 – Avenida Rosa Mazón Valero. Approximate area: 15,315 m2.
Car park 6: Avenida Delfina Viudes – N-332 (Parque Antonio Soria – Torrevieja weekly market). Approximate area: 92,397 m2
It’s estimated that the work will cost a total of 536,000 euros on top of another 64,000 euros for the drafting project.
But since the council has just put the job out to tender, it’s extremely unlikely that any of the car parks will be ready to handle the traffic of the upcoming summer season.
