ARCHIVED - Sharp rise in incidence rate: Valencia Covid update November 19
727 new infections across the Valencia region, including Alicante province, as cumulative incidence rate soars past 100 cases
The Valencia region continues to record daily infections in excess of 500 as hospital admissions rise along with the 14-day cumulative incidence rate which has reached 108.32 cases per 100,000 inhabitants
Including today's daily count, there have been 2,471 new coronavirus cases reported since Monday November 15, and 24 Covid-related deaths.
Despite the recent surge in positives, Valencia president, Ximo Puig has once against maintained new restrictions will not be introduced, but assured Covid passports will be necessary to gain entry to certain leisure and hospitality venues imminently, "to stop another wave that could collapse the health system".
And more than 210,000 people immunised with the single-dose Janssen vaccine are being offered third booster jabs from this week.
New cases
A further 727 new cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of positives since the beginning of the pandemic to 522,809 people. By province: 158 in Castellón (56,160 in total); 221 in Alicante (191,370) and 348 in Valencia (275,278).
Recoveries
358 people have recovered from Covid since the last update, meaning that to date, 520,688 people in the Valencian region have overcome the virus. By province: 55,601 in Castellón; 190,374 in Alicante; and 274,657 in Valencia. There remain 56 unassigned recoveries.
Hospitalisations
There are currently 249 people admitted to hospitals in the three provinces, up from 214 last Friday, 49 of whom are being treated in ICUs (three more): 58 in the province of Castellón, 11 in ICU; 82 in the province of Alicante, 21 in the ICU; and 109 in the province of Valencia, 17 of them in the ICU.
Fatalities
There have been no reported deaths which occurred in the last seven days, but 24 since Monday. This means the total number of fatalities since the start of the pandemic stands at 7,889: 869 of these deaths have been recorded in Castellón; 3,029 in Alicante; and 3,991 in the province of Valencia.
Vaccinations
A total of 4,218,723 people have received one dose of vaccine, and 4,150,078 people are now fully immunised with two doses of Pfizer, Moderna or AstraZeneca, or the single-dose Janssen.
Active cases
According to the latest data, there are currently 5,674 active cases – up from 4,360cases in the community on Monday – which represents 1.06% of the total positives.
Outbreaks
Since the last update there have been no reported outbreaks with 10 or more associated cases.
