Severe weather in Alicante and Valencia: Heavy rainfall prompts alerts and safety measures
Intense rains lead to orange alerts in Alicante, with authorities implementing precautionary actions

The alert is effective from midnight until 2pm on Tuesday March 4. In response, local authorities have recommended closing access to ravines and similar areas, suspending outdoor activities, and cancelling classes to ensure public safety.
The adverse weather conditions have also led to a tragic incident in Torrevieja. On Monday March 3, the body of a 55-year-old fisherman was discovered near Cala Cornuda. The man had been reported missing earlier, and authorities believe his death is linked to the ongoing storm affecting the area.
Aemet has warned that the current weather instability is expected to persist throughout the week. While Tuesday’s orange alert is focused on the northern coast of Alicante, the entire province is anticipated to be under a yellow alert on Wednesday March 5. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and adhere to safety recommendations issued by authorities.
In October 2024, the Valencian Community was hit by a severe DANA storm that took over 200 lives and caused millions of euros’ worth of damage, especially in the area surrounding Valencia city. Authorities are now being very cautious when it comes to the weather and the alerts they issue to the populace, in order to try to avoid another tragedy.
