ARCHIVED - Several injured in four separate crashes in Alicante
Three of the victims had to be freed from wreckages by Alicante firefighters, one of them in a serious condition
Emergency services in Alicante were called to four separate crashes over the weekend – three within the space of five hours – which left four people injured, one of them seriously.
According to police sources, the most serious accident occurred at around 6.30am on Sunday November 21 at a roundabout in Avenida Goleta, Alicante city. Three Local Police patrols were immediately sent to the scene of the two-car crash to cut off access whilst Alicante firefighters freed a seriously injured driver who was trapped inside one of the vehicles as a result of the impact.
A crew of eight firefighters were forced to remove the "completely crushed roof" to rescue one of the drivers in what has been described as a "complicated manoeuvre due to the difficulty of accessing the victim", which took more than an hour.
The "seriously hurt" man whose age has not been disclosed was placed on a spinal board and taken to a nearby hospital.
Within the space of five hours, a further two collisions occurred in the city, in avenidas Doctor Rico and Oviedo, in which two people had to be freed from their vehicles.
Elsewhere in Alicante province, firefighters from Orihuela worked for two hours to free a motorist trapped inside his car after smashing into a tree in San Bartolomé in the Vega Baja area.
The accident happened at 11.40am on Saturday November 20 on the CV-95 between Orihuela and Almoradí, at kilometre five. The extent of the driver's injuries have not been revealed, and the cause of all of the collisions is being investigated.
