Seven dogs rescued in two separate cases of animal neglect in Murcia
A San Pedro del Pinatar woman faces huge fines after starving her three pets
The Guardia Civil has launched investigations into multiple cases of animal abuse that all occurred in the Region of Murcia this week.
In San Pedro del Pinatar, specialists from the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) were alerted by the Local Police after discovering three dogs living in deplorable conditions. The animals were severely emaciated and showed bone malformations consistent with prolonged starvation.
The Guardia Civil contacted a local animal shelter and volunteers collected the dogs, who have received veterinary treatment and are now being well cared for. Their owner, however, is facing legal proceedings as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against animals for abandonment.
The authorities confirmed that the dogs had been deprived of basic care, adequate food and veterinary attention. The woman could face significant fines and a ban on owning animals for several years.
In a separate incident in Cartagena, Local Police reported a man for leaving four dogs inside a van parked in the scorching sun with poor ventilation. The dogs were showing signs of laboured breathing and possible dehydration.After being alerted to the situation, police quickly located the owner and verified that, in general, the dogs were in good condition. He was subsequently fined for leaving the animals in an unsafe environment.
Tragically, another case in Murcia involved a Mercedes driver who was filmed throwing a cat from his car window before repeatedly running over it, ultimately killing the poor animal. The Guardia Civil were able to track the driver to Torrevieja, where he was swiftly arrested.
