ARCHIVED - Serious collision as car jumps red light and collides with tram in Murcia
Several vehicles were involved in the smash which occurred in Murcia city
A collision occurred on Monday, July 20 when a car collided with a tram beside the Campanile hotel on Avenida Juan Carlos 1, at the intersection with El Puntal. Several vehicles were involved in the accident as the avenue is a busy thoroughfare, being home to a school, bus and tram stop, shopping centres and medical centres.
According to reports, the collision occurred when a car driven by an 83-year-old man ran a red light and crashed straight into the tram. An ambulance and two units from the Local Police of Murcia attended the scene. The elderly driver was taken by ambulance to the Reina Sofia hospital in Murcia where he was treated for minor injuries.
The other vehicles involved all suffered varying degrees of damage but the tram line was able to resume operation shortly after the accident, causing minimal disruption to local public transport.
