ARCHIVED - Road and pavement resurfacing begins on urbanisation in Orihuela Costa
Pedestrian and accessibility is being improved at La Regia housing development in the Vega Baja, Alicante province.
Asphalting and pavement replacement works have begun at La Regia urbanisation in Orihuela Costa, upgrading surfacing laid "more than 35 years ago" and now in a state of disrepair.
According to the local council, some repairs have been made over this period, during infrastructure upgrades, but some streets "do not comply with current accessibility and traffic circulation regulations", with tree roots dislodging paving stones, poorly installed lowered curbs to access homes, a lack of parking and other signage and deteriorated pedestrian crossings.
As such more than €440,000 has been budgeted to bring the roads and pavements up to standard in Calles Isla Cabrera, Isla Dragonera, Isla Sardinia, Isla Corsica and Isla Formentera.
Included in the budget are further similar schemes in La Zenia which will be carried out "after the summer" in Calle Carmen and and Avenida La Palmeras, where €18,245 has been earmarked for resurfacing and accessibility improvements.
