ARCHIVED - Requests for Covid passports on the Costa Blanca double in a week
More than 2.2 million Covid certificates have now been issued in the Valencia region, including Alicante province
Requests for Covid passports have doubled in the last week in the Valencia region, following president Ximo Puig's announcement that the certificate is likely to be required to enter certain hospitality and leisure establishments from early next month.
More than 2.2 million passports have been issued in the region since the scheme began, but in the last fortnight there has been a "significant" increase in the number of certificates issued, reaching 332,455 between November 8 and 21.
Indeed, in the last week, the number of requests for these certificates has almost doubled, with a total of 218,271 applied for between November 15 and 21, compared to 114,184 the previous week.
This represents an average of 31,181 certificates each day, according to data from the Regional Ministry of Health.
Of the 2,254,335 certificates issued, 24,914 have been for proof of tests; 30,516 for recovery; and 2,198,905 for vaccinations. A total of 1,835,190 of these, 81.4%, have been issued online and the remaining 419,145, 18.6%, in person.
Puig confirmed today that the region's Interdepartmental Committee will meet this week to establish which establishments and venues it will be mandatory to present a covid passport to enter, a measure that requires judicial authorisation, and he is "confident" the measure will be implemented before Constitution Day in Spain on December 6.
