ARCHIVED - Remodelling of storm damaged promenade in Calpe begins
The 'viewpoint of Hipocampos' in the Marina Alta area of Alicante province is undergoing an eight week reconstruction
Work has begun on the reconstruction of the storm-damaged promenade at La Fossa beach in Calpe, known as the viewpoint of Hipocampos.
As part of the 110,586 euros project, the section which was most effected by storm Gloria in 2000 will be remodelled and part of a large planter removed to create an additional 300 m2 space on the beach.
"Through this project we will be able to expand the beach at a key point of the Fossa. The Gloria storm destroyed the walkways and caused great damage, but the positive aspect is that now allows us to gain metres of beach for public use," said the council.
The work, fifty per cent of which is being funded through a regional natural disasters grant scheme, is expected to take eight weeks.
