ARCHIVED - Rain, wind and snow in Alicante from Thursday onwards: weather forecast March 2-8

The University of Alicante’s Climatology Lab is warning of “the most serious storm of the last few months”

ARCHIVED - Rain, wind and snow in Alicante from Thursday onwards: weather forecast March 2-8
The weather is set to change considerably in the province of Alicante and the rest of the Mediterranean from Thursday March 3 and over the weekend. Weather forecasts indicate that the second half of this week will be marked by the arrival of a strong squall accompanied by widespread rain and which could even leave snow at higher altitudes.

The Climatology Laboratory of the University of Alicante has stated that “if the [current] forecasts are maintained, it could be the most serious storm of the last few months.”

EXPLAINER: What is a Gota Fría storm?

This coming storm is unprecedented in 2022, as we have seen drought and a lack of rainfall so far this year. In the rest of Spain, especially the northern areas, there is expected to be a sharp drop in temperatures as a polar air mass sweeps across the country.

Meteorologists “on tenterhooks”

Meteorologists say that this coming storm has them all “on tenterhooks”, with the driving rain and high winds forecast to last into the beginning of next week at least, although we will have to wait to see how it evolves over the next few hours.

“Friday could be quite a complicated day in the east of Spain and the Balearic Islands due to the presence of a Mediterranean squall,” says expert Samuel Biener.

Maximum and minimum temperatures in Alicante this week

 • Wednesday March 2: Min 5ºC; Max 22ºC
 • Thursday March 3: Min 4ºC; Max 21ºC
 • Friday March 4: Min 5ºC; Max 16ºC
 • Saturday March 5: Min 2ºC; Max 16ºC
 • Sunday March 6: Min 4ºC; Max 16ºC
 • Monday March 7: Min 3ºC; Max 17ºC
 • Tuesday March 8: Min 2ºC; Max 19ºC
