ARCHIVED - Property tax rebate for El Campello homes with solar energy installations
Homeowners in the Alicante town will receive a 50% IBI rebate for five years

El Campello Town Council has approved a five-year 50% rebate on Real Estate Tax (IBI) for homes that have solar panels or that install solar panels now.
The rebate will be applicable to all types of properties within the municipality. This tax deduction will take effect in the financial year following the installation by an approved company, and will be valid for five years.
The proposal was put forward by the Councillor for Finance Lourdes Llopis, who stressed that "awareness of climate change is something that both public authorities and citizens must take on board".
"Comparative studies have been carried out with other municipalities, and it was decided to subsidise solar energy with the maximum allowed by the regulations, in order to move towards sustainable development with the use of clean, renewable and alternative energy sources," she said, adding: "In recent years there have been a number of significant changes in the regulation of the use of green energy in homes, specifically in everything to do with the energy we receive from the sun, which is one of the great alternatives for users to move towards a model of self-consumption."
Solar energy represents 5% of all the renewable energy produced in Spain, and according to experts, its future lies in its widespread use in the private sector. Contact El Campello Town Hall to find out more about the IBI rebate.
Elsewhere in Alicante province, energy business group Atitlan Helios has revealed plans to build a photovoltaic plant in the municipalities of Monovar and Salinas which will supply electricity to 70,000 homes.
