ARCHIVED - Police intercept 450 kilos of cocaine en-route to Valencia in shipping container
The authorities had been warned that the shipment of drugs had set out from Brazil and was heading for Spain.
The National Police, Guardia Civil and Customs authorities have seized 450 kilos of cocaine in transit from Brazil in a joint operation carried out in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Valencia.
Investigations began when the authorities heard through international cooperation channels that a container heading for Valencia could be carrying narcotics.
Officers were ready and waiting when the shipment reached its first point of entry into Spain, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria port, and seized the drugs as investigations continued in order to find out who was expecting to receive them in Valencia.
Following a surveillance operation at the port in Valencia, officers arrested three Spanish nationality port workers who the police forces reported were trying to recover the drugs.
